M1 Millennium Dome Service, Gas Bus at Charlton Station.
This terminus was built just for this bus service. These buses were very
frequent, but very lightly used. Extra trains served Charlton Station
for the dome. A fact that when booking tickets for the dome over the phone
the people on the other end seemed unaware of. Visitors are told to go
the Central London and come in by underground, even if they were Greenwich
residents.

Bus services at the dome, North Greenwich Station. To the
front of the picture is the dome service M1, Dome - Charlton Station. (Service
M2 is for Greenwich Station - Dome). Behind this a Metrobus on service
161, North Greenwich Station - Chislehurst, via Woolwich and Eltham.

Mm2008. V8 GMT is a DAF SB220 with East Lancs bodywork. The funny shapes on the roof are tanks for the natural gas which powers this bus. The low sulphur diesel version, with its lack of roof top tanks can be seen at the top of the page Seventeen DAF SB220s are in use on these services, three of which are gas powered. 27 October 2000 Photograph John King |
