Buses in the Shooters Hill Area

An 89 has passed over the summit and is about to descend to Welling. The water tower a landmark atop Shooters Hill looks out over London and the home counties, it can be clearly seen in this photograph. The tower built in 1910 stands 500 feet above sea level and supplies water with a good head to the people of the Shooters Hill area.

A Volvo Olympian with Northern Counties body, designated VN on service 178 in Shrewsbury Lane, the bus is at the stop on its way to Shooters Hill Road and Kidbrooke station.

In the 70s route 178 ran between Stratford and Clapton with lowbridge RLH buses. In the 50s between West Norwood and Victoria via Herne Hill, Brixton and Vauxhall. So it has moved around a bit in its time.
