Lower Sydenham Station

RT 365. HLX 182. on service 180 at Lower Sydenham Station.
Route 180 was from Abbey Wood via Abbey Estate - Lower Sydenham Station and went via Plumstead, Woolwich, Greenwich, Lewisham, Catford and Bellingham. The 180 was from both Abbey Wood (AW) and Catford (TL) Garages.
As well as the station, there were several firms in the vicinity, also the British Library had a storage department in Worsley Bridge Road. Lower Sydenham Station is on the Hayes line.

The 180 came down Southend Lane then turned into Worsley Bridge Road before backing into the Station Approach. A few metres after the turn into Worsley Bridge Road was a low bridge. A few buses were casualties here, one of them was seen in Catford garage in 1970s with no roof after being driven under it. Amazingly not on window was broken, what was left of the roof hung down the back of the bus. Follow this link for details

One other casualty was a lorry carrying large reels of paper. This became firmly stuck under the bridge, after shifting it a couple of feet. The line it carried was closed for several days while repairs were made.
