London Transport Buses, Route 161. Eltham, Southend Crescent to Sidcup
LT Garage via Chislehurst. with some journeys to Woolwich, Parsons Hill.
This was probably to supplement the 44 tram taking workers to the Royal
Arsenal at Woolwich. During World War 1 an Estate was built in Well Hall
Road for essential workers at the ordinance factory.
After the demise of the tram the route went from Eltham to Woolwich all the time, with some journeys to Charlton, Victoria Way. for workers in the industries thereabouts. A 161a was introduced with journeys from Woolwich to Chislehurst and Petts Wood. The 161 now runs from Chislehurst to North Greenwich Station. |
