Traffic Hold Up

RT 4534 emerging from Amersham Road is hampered by the traffic on Lewisham Way on the New Cross one way system. The cause is a small crane which has fallen over in the road blocking it.
circa November 1970.

While a couple of workman try to sort the problem out, several police officers and bus inspectors discuss the problem between themselves.
The building facing the end of the road has a shop on the ground floor with the name 'Pricerite' which belonged to a now disappeared supermarket chain. The whole building is now 'The Venue' night club

This looks like a Sunday before the days of Sunday trading, otherwise there would be a lot bigger hold up than can be seen in these pictures. Behind the hoarding on the left is Goldsmiths college.

RT 4534 (OLD 764) a New Cross bus returning to the garage on route 177 negotiates around the blockage by mounting the pavement. These photographs were taken from on board another 177 headed for the Elephant and Castle.
