London Trams

Two photographs contributed by Alan Rutherford, (that's him on the left) taken by his late father George Rutherford on the penultimate day 4 July 1952.

At the City terminus we see 302 an ex West Ham car, these had narrow advertisement panels so were unsuitable to carry the 'Last Tram Week' posters. Evidence of WW2 can be seen in the photograph. The city end of the bridge was damage by a bomb, you can see the temporary wooden structure still in place. This meant that trams had to terminate on the bridge itself. Also it can be seen the glass had been removed from Cannon Street station.

Another tram on another bridge, this time a 38 on Westminster Bridge about to make the journey along Victoria Embankment and back to South London via Blackfriars. Of note is the two service men crossing the bridge, not at all unusual in those far off days.
