This is the ship which CaptainJames Cook took to the South Pacific in 1768 to witness an eclipse of the sun by Venus. He sailed with Joseph Banks, a naturalist who gave Botany Bay in Australia its name. Cook also named New South Wales on this trip, which included a visit to New Zealand.
